SENSITIVITY TO THE DISABLED “Thank you so much for teaching us about Braille. You taught us that people who are blind or have a disability aren’t scary, just different. Your kind and humorous manner showed us that we shouldn’t be afraid of people who are different than us and that it’s ok to ask questions or to be curious about someone.” Jessica, Village Charter School, Trenton “Thank you for organizing our trip to the Kidsbridge museum. It was a lot of fun and we learned so much. Learning about Braille was fun, too. John told us about how it is hard not to see, but you can get along. I think making the puppets helped us tell how people were treating others.” Danielle, Princeton Charter School “As John talked about the experience of being visually impaired I thought to myself, how lucky am I to have all five senses active and clear. As he looked around the room blankly and listened to our voices, I thought of how much we depend on our eyes. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine losing my sight, but just couldn't come to do it. I just cannot stop thinking about how much I have learned from a blind person and his stories.” David, 11 years old, West Orange Middle School |
